Struggling To Find Justice

file
Lost Years, the 2011 recipient of the Best Documentary, History & Culture award at the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival, will be screened on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at the Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema at SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts.
The film touches on 150 years of the Chinese diaspora in Canada, the U.S., New Zealand and Australia and the presentation at SFU’s Vancouver campus will include a question and answer period with representatives from the film.
SFU’s David Lam Centre for International Communication is sponsoring the event, which is free to the public (online registration is recommended).
The centre has recently launched two national projects on Chinese-Canadian history: A Brief Chronology of Chinese Canadian History and Canada Chinatown Series.
“For over a year now we have undertaken two fairly major projects on Chinese-Canadian history, and when I heard about this film, it’s exactly what we are interested in and researching,” says Paul Crowe, centre director.
“We are currently developing materials designed to educate students and the public and intending to publish our Canada Chinatown Series as a set of companion documents. Our first booklet was fittingly on Canada’s first Chinatown [Victoria] and we are close to finishing our second draft booklet on Vancouver’s Chinatown.”
