Mount Pleasant is a lively and inviting area with a tremendous selection of cafes, bistros and restaurants to choose from. Choices range from ethnic to upscale, comfort food to the best burgers in town - you'll be warmly welcomed wherever you go! Increasingly recognized as the up and coming area to find trendy fashion, Main Street has a cosmopolitan feel that invites you to stroll in search of the next perfect gem. You will find designer fashion, vintage wear and the latest in menswear and haberdashery. Mount Pleasant's origins stem from historical community development around a former stream which attracted a number of breweries from 1888 to 1912. The area was fondly nicknamed "Brewery Creek". In 1890 after the first street cars arrived, the area became a central commercial district and the ability to travel to the city made Mount Pleasant Vancouver's "first suburb". Currently, turn of the century architecture, including the ornate Beaux-Arts Heritage Hall (1915) with its elegant clock tower and the Edwardian Commercial style Lee Building (1912) which was once the tallest building south of downtown Vancouver, rubs shoulders with upscale condos while the community thrives with a vibrant creative energy. The Mount Pleasant BIA (Business Improvement Area) is a non-profit community based organization that focuses on improving and growing the neighbourhood in a healthy, cultural and sustainable way.
